Current research

In my Ph.D. project, Peripatetic Precarity: An Ethnographic Investigation of Unaccompanied Moroccan Minors, I study how vulnerable migrant minors are driven to and manage to cross the Strait of Gibraltar and move into Europe.

The number of registered migrant minors from Morocco has increased in recent years, a conundrum that has puzzled European authorities. The irregular migration of minors is a highly hazardous endeavour with high risks of abuse as a consequence of the trafficking networks that operate in the borderlands between continents. This project seeks to elucidate the factors and forces that underlie the migration of such minors by following them along their migratory trajectories. In doing so, it sheds light on a particularly precarious process of undocumented and irregular migration and ethnographically clarifies the dynamics involved.
