Citizen Driven Environmental Action

THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED

Project period: 2010-2014

The project on “Citizen Driven Environmental Action" (CIDEA) aimed at reducing CO2 emissions in Denmark at communal and household level, focusing mainly on transport and energy consumption.

The project had two purposes: 1) to find out which cognitive and behavioral factors that determines how citizens get informed, motivated and activated in relation to the environment; in particular climate change, This in order to 2) develop new solutions based on organizationally embedded information and communication technology, which can be used by local authorities in informing, motivating and activating citizens to do a personal effort for improving the environment; especially by saving energy and reducing private, motorized traffic.

By analysing the factors determining or constraining environmental behaviour and action and using information technology, it intended to provide Danish communes with tools that could allow them to better promote environmentally sound behaviour change and help them meet their CO2 reduction targets.

The project was interdisciplinary and involved researchers from anthropology, political science, forest and landscape, computer science and DHI.

It worked in collaboration with 7 communes that ran environmental pilot projects (Kolding, Skanderborg, Middelfart, Odense, Køge, Herning and Copenhagen).
