Unlocking the Potential of Green Charcoal Innovations to Mitigate Climate Change in Northern Uganda (UPCHAIN)
UPCHAIN is a multi-disciplinary research project organized in collaboration with Gulu University, Uganda. The project examines the production and use of cleaner and greener energy.
The UPCHAIN project focuses primarily on the production and the use of briquettes (green charcoal) from agricultural residues as an alternative to firewood and black charcoal.
The aim of the project is to unlock the potential of green charcoal innovations, so green charcoal can contribute to stopping deforestation, reduce smoke-induced health issues as well as create local employment.
Read more about the UPCHAIN project on their own website.
The UPCHAIN project examines green charcoal in a series of 1 to 7 Work Packages. Each Work Package focuses on a different aspect of the production and use of green charcoal.
