Summary:
This dissertation examines notions of authenticity and morality among anthropologists as they seek to carve out a space for themselves in the labor market working as consultants in four different consultancies: three based in Denmark and one in New Zealand. The dissertation explores the informants’ everyday work lives in the consultancies, and follows how they manifest their academic trademarks while simultaneously complying with client wishes and competing with other consultancies. They do this while facing unprecedented demand for anthropologists in the Danish labor market yet also mounting skepticism about the relevance of the social sciences and humanities more broadly in a changing political landscape.
