My Ph.D. project with the working title Between Empathy and Fear investigates the meeting between Mexicans and undocumented migrants in transit towards the United States. The study is based on three ethnographic cases along the migration route through Mexico. Through these cases, I explore how different local political projects emerge both in solidarity with and in resistance against the flow of undocumented migrants. Thereby, this project aims to provide a deeper understanding of the social, ethical and political dynamics behind polarized attitudes towards transnational migration.
